First 2 releases of 2016

It’s been an exciting week for Springbank Distillers as we released our first two new releases of 2016.

The first is the highly anticipated Springbank Local Barley - our first general-release Local Barley bottling since 2001. Springbank Local Barley is one of the most iconic Springbank expressions ever produced and we are delighted to announce the new 16 year old bottling, the first in a series of five expressions to be released over five years. As mentioned, the new bottling is 16 years old and was distilled from barley grown at Low Machrimore Farm in Southend, a few miles outside of Campbeltown. It has been bottled at 54.3% with only 9,000 bottles available for worldwide distribution. The RRP for the new Springbank Local Barley is £95.00 and the tasting notes are:

Nose: Initially Sweet and briny before notes of butter shortbread, vanilla, pear drops and raisin develop.

Palate : Sweet and rounded with a very subtle peat influence combining with butter tablet, soft fruit and mineral notes.

Finish : A long evolving finish with notes reminiscent of our earthy dunnage warehouses.  The peat is slightly more prominent and integrates well with lighter notes of candy and lemon zest.

The second new release is the new version of our popular Springbank 12yo Cask Strength. This has been matured in a combination of 70% Sherry casks and 30% Bourbon casks, been bottled at 54.1% and is limited to only 9,000 bottles for worldwide distribution. This whisky is retailing around £47.00 and the tasting notes for the January 2016 release are:

Nose : Classic Springbank with aromas of our damp dunnage warehouses alongside parma violets, vanilla and cocoa.  Plenty of fruit too with prominent notes of pear and candied fruits.

Palate : Bold and beautifully rounded.  Vanilla and pepper notes are present alongside stewed apples, pear drops, orange marmalade and tropical fruits.

Finish : Peaty embers influence this characteristically long finish which also reveals notes of liquorice, oak and salted caramel.
